Being a Powerful and Protective Mother for Children

Cahaya Mentari as a community based - crisis centre in Surabaya, Esat Java was built on 2006 with World Vision Indonesia as its partner.
Almost all of the activists are household mothers. The focus of its program is to help the victims of violence both women and children, especially children who are vulnerable in the exploitation of a drug courier and sex workers. To date Cahaya Mentari have handled at least 325 cases.

It is Difficult to Achieve MDGs Target

Many people in doubts with the country ability to achieve Milennium Development Goal (MDG). Data shows that one year after the launch of MDG, the achievement of some target has not been achieved yet. World Vision Indonesia\'s Advocacy Director Asteria Aritonang said, although children health status improves, the decrease of children mortality rate is too slow.

In 24 Hours, Two Children Die

World Vision Indonesia finds that 531 Indonesian children die in a year. It means that in 24 hour, two children die because of malnutrition. World Vision's Marketing and Public Relations John Nelwan said that children mortality rate has decreased since 1990, but it is still too high.

531 Under Five Children Die Per Day

After 50 years serving in Indonesia, WV in Jakarta introduces Child Health Now program focusing on improving maternal and child nutrition and health. "Every year 9 million or 24.000 per day children die before five years old thgrout the world. In Indonesia more than 531 under five children die per day or 22 children per hour" John Nelwan, WV Indonesia staff said. WV always try to increase the quality of Indonesia children life.

Small and Medium-scale Businesses are Unprotected by ACFTA

The small and medium-scale businesses needs better protection and guidance in improving the quality of their products, distribution and marketing to meet the fiercer competition in the ACFTA (ASEAN China Free Trade Agreement) scheme, said Kurniawan, a researcher from the LP3ES. He made the statement in Jakarta on Tuesday when he explained about the result of a joint study between LP3ES and World Vision Indonesia on the public policy on small and medium scale entrepreneurship. Kurniawan noted the government needs to provide non-financial subsidies and support, such as assistance in licensing, less bureaucracy, product standardization, property rights and other things.
